Rangers were contacted by Provincetown PD on March 8th and advised that they’d received a 911 call from a local resident who had found a body in the tidal flat area behind the Wood End lighthouse while out walking his dog. Rangers responded and found the body, which had evidently been at the site for several tide cycles. The victim was a man in his 40s, with no identifying marks or features and no ID. A Provincetown detective and paramedic, a Massachusetts state trooper, and members of the Massachusetts State Police crime scene unit were transported by four wheel drive vehicles to the site. Although there were some indicators on the body, the cause of death has not been determined and he has not yet been identified. Several leads are being investigated. The body was released to the state medical examiner. District ranger Craig Thatcher is leading the investigation for the NPS.
