Volunteer campground hosts at five of the most visited campgrounds at Lake Roosevelt NRA will be riding “green” in the upcoming 2010 visitor season. Five new Gem el XD® electric work vehicles have been purchased by the park to reduce the parks own carbon footprint, and promote the values of clean and quiet vehicle use in the park.
The volunteer hosts will additionally attend a training course on the parks “Tread Lightly” program. With the vehicles and training as new tools in their belts, the park hopes they can better instill stewardship values and camping ethics in park visitors by leading by example.
As the face of the NPS in many parks the volunteers contact thousands of visitors each year and often have the best opportunity to educate park visitors. They will be focusing their message for visitors, offering information on how they can lessen their impact on the park and other park visitors, thereby making the experience a more enjoyable one for all.
