Building Closed And Evacuated Due To Suspicious Package

Federal Hall National Memorial

National Park News

A suspicious package caused the shutdown of Federal Hall on Monday. The incident began at 10:15 a.m. when New York City police officers responded to a call alerting them to the presence of an unattended green suitcase in front of the statue of George Washington near the steps leading up to the main entrance of Federal Hall. The front doors of the building were closed as a precaution at the request of the NYPD, and visitors inside were asked to vacate the site by its rear entrance. Once the suitcase was determined to be empty and the police cleared the site, Federal Hall reopened its doors to the public at 11 a.m. Federal Hall NM is located at 26 Wall Street, across the street from the New York Stock Exchange.
