On November 16th, park superintendent Randy King and Washington's National Park Fund executive director Eleanor Kittelson had the honor of accepting a grant for $75,000 from The Boeing Company Charitable Trust. Neelima Shah, the Boeing Company's community investor for environmental issues in the Northwest, presented the check.
The grant will be used to analyze the park's vehicle fleet to find ways to reduce emissions as well as operating costs. It will also be used to continue the popular weekend visitor shuttle during the busy summer season. The goal for the grant is to help the park become carbon neutral and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2016, part of the Climate Friendly Parks action plan.
"The Boeing grant is great news for Mount Rainier National Park and for everyone who enjoys it, " Kittelson said. "Boeing has shown a real commitment to environmental leadership through this grant."
