Ranger Coby Bishop investigated a "visitor in distress" call at the Gulpha Gorge campground on the evening of July 23rd. When he arrived at the campground, Bishop found a man attempting to dig into the ground by hand, yelling for assistance and claiming that someone was buried there. He threw rocks at responding campers, causing minor injuries. When Bishop attempted to talk to him, the man became belligerent, declined to obey commands, and had to be wrestled to the ground and subdued in order to be handcuffed. Bishop suffered a slight laceration in the process. The man was taken to jail and was to undergo psychiatric evaluation. Charges are pending.
