Medical Standards Program Update

National Park News

The new medical standards contract has been awarded to Comprehensive Health Service, Inc. (CHS).

Because of changes in the contract, it is necessary for CHS to make some programmatic changes prior to resumption of baseline or periodic medical examination scheduling.  CHS expects to complete that work sometime between about August 10th and August 17th.

It will be widely announced – in InsideNPS, in the Morning Report, and through other communications – when CHS is ready to resume examination scheduling. CHS will continue their practice of flagging requests for baseline examinations for speedy processing.  They will attempt to call and schedule the examination within the first 24 to 48 hours.  When received, the examination results will be flagged for priority review by the NPS medical review officer.

Any exam requested in the CHS database prior to Saturday, June 6th, will continue to be processed by CHS until completion. Please check our website for updates and further instruction.

The medical standards program provides guidance and support to regional offices, servicing personnel offices, parks, and employees in designated arduous duty law enforcement positions undergoing the medical review process established by Director’s Order/Reference Manual–57 (DO/RM-57), the National Park Service Occupational Medical Standards Guidelines.
