Sitka National Historical Park hosted Russian diplomat Yuri Gerasin at the park during the Sitka Russian Festival Concert series. The festival attracted Russian and Russian American historians, artists and musicians to town as well as to the park to explore the former Russian colonial capital, now Sitka. A reception was held for Gerasin(left) in the park, during which Superintendent Mary Miller (right) presented him with a copy of âRussians in Tlingit America: The Battles of Sitka, 1802 and 1804â by Nora and Richard Dauenhauer and Lydia Black and Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams (center) looked on .
Mr. Gerasin is the general counsel of the Russian Federation in Seattle. Superintendent Miller stated, âIt is our goal to connect visitors to Sitka National Historical Parkâs unique cultural history and future. We are excited for this opportunity to build relationships with the Russian and Russian American communities as we approach the park centennial in 2010.â
