Special Steam Excursion to Tunkhannock Viaduct Sold Out!

SCRANTON, PA – Steamtown National Historic Site, downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, announced today that tickets for the special excursion to Tunkhannock Viaduct, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2009, are no longer available as the train completely “sold out” in a two-day period!  The excursion date coincides with the Borough of Nicholson’s “Bridge Day” celebration which takes place the following day, Sunday, September 13, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., commemorating the 94th anniversary of the viaduct.  For information on the Nicholson “Bridge Day” festival, phone (570) 942-4767 or 942-4443.

While this special excursion is “sold out,” tickets are still available for remaining 2009 excursions to Moscow and Tobyhanna, as well as for a special excursion to East Stroudsburg on October 17.  Additionally, “Railfest 2009,” which will take place on Labor Day weekend, will feature excursions to Moscow that will include “photo-runbys” during each trip!  The full excursion schedule is available online at www.nps.gov/stea by clicking the “Train Rides” link.  Excursion tickets must be pre-paid and are non-refundable unless an excursion is cancelled by management.  Phone (570) 340-5204 between 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily for excursion reservations; all major credit and debit cards are accepted.

Located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Steamtown NHS is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  From I-81, follow exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway); then, follow the signs to the main entrance at Lackawanna and Cliff Avenues.   General park information is available by phoning (570) 340-5200 during regular business hours, or by visiting the Park website, www.nps.gov/stea anytime!
