HROC Opens For Business

National Park News

The Human Resources Operations Center (HROC) opened for business on Wednesday, July 1st, and is now accepting requests from human resources offices across the Service for the classification of all position descriptions.

The HROC, located in Lakewood, Colorado, will also produce length of service awards and Servicewide notices on a variety of HR topics.

“With the opening of the HROC, we have reached a major milestone in implementing our transformation of HR servicing arrangements in the NPS," said acting director Dan Wenk.  "By specializing only in certain HR services, the HROC will deliver better quality of advice and results in highly technical areas.”

Michael Clayton, HROC chief in the Office of Human Resources, is leading the new organization and has been diligently working to ensure it is up and running:  “Our goal is to assist NPS human resources offices in providing the quality of services our Parks and employees expect and deserve.”

Other employees of the HROC include Jason Throngard, chief of the Classification Branch (coming to NPS from the Forest Service); classification specialists Tom Vert (formerly with the Air Force) and Barbara Schmidt (Nuclear Regulatory Commission); administrative officer Lisa Zahn (coming over from Veterans Affairs); and David Griggs, information technology specialist (previously with the NPS/CIO).

Filling additional positions continues to be the highest priority.  In the meantime, the HROC will utilize an excellent cadre of retired Federal employees on contract who will fill the gap.

For more information, please visit the HROC website or phone (303) 969-2996.
