Thursday, Aug 4, 2005 As dawn broke over San Francisco Bay, 18 paddlers guided a Maori waka (ocean-going canoe) into the Aquatic Park lagoon. Members of the Ohlone tribe welcomed them in two tule-reed canoes. The ceremony continued on the beach, as spectators packed the Landmark District's WPA-era concrete bleachers.
