On Wednesday, May 27th, Secretary Ken Salazar paid a visit to Atlanta. He met with Georgiaâs governor, Sonny Perdue, visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, and held a DOI employee meeting at the Richard B. Russell Federal Building.
During his visit to Martin Luther King, Secretary Salazar toured the visitor center, observed the ongoing renovation of Ebenezer Baptist Church, laid a wreath at Dr. Kingâs and Mrs. Kingâs tomb, and was given a personal tour of Dr. Kingâs Birth Home by Dr. Kingâs sister, Christine King Farris.
Later in the day, at the DOI employee meeting, Secretary Salazar spoke of his vision for the Department and outlined his priorities. After his brief remarks he spent close to 30 minutes fielding questions from the crowd of about 100 employees representing many different DOI agencies, including NPS, FWS, USGS, the Inspector General, and the Solicitor.
