Secretary Visits Park, Meets With DOI Employees

National Park News

On Wednesday, May 27th, Secretary Ken Salazar paid a visit to Atlanta.  He met with Georgia’s governor, Sonny Perdue, visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, and held a DOI employee meeting at the Richard B. Russell Federal Building.

During his visit to Martin Luther King, Secretary Salazar toured the visitor center, observed the ongoing renovation of Ebenezer Baptist Church, laid a wreath at Dr. King’s and Mrs. King’s tomb, and was given a personal tour of Dr. King’s Birth Home by Dr. King’s sister, Christine King Farris.

Later in the day, at the DOI employee meeting, Secretary Salazar spoke of his vision for the Department and outlined his priorities.  After his brief remarks he spent close to 30 minutes fielding questions from the crowd of about 100 employees representing many different DOI agencies, including NPS, FWS, USGS, the Inspector General, and the Solicitor.
