New Bills Introduced
The following bills of interest to the NPS were introduced:
H.R. 2602 (Hirono, D-HI) - To direct the Secretary of the Interior to study the suitability and feasibility of designating the Ka'u Coast on the island of Hawaii as a unit of the National Park System.
H.R. 2603 (Hirono, D-HI) - To direct the Secretary of the Interior to study the suitability and feasibility of designating certain lands along the northern coast of Maui, Hawaii, as a unit of the National Park System.
H.R. 2643 (Welch, D-VT) -To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to provide assistance in implementing cultural heritage, conservation, and recreational activities in the Connecticut River watershed of the States of New Hampshire and Vermont.
S. 1117 (Leahy, D-VT) - A bill to authorize the Secretary of the Interior to provide assistance in implementing cultural heritage, conservation, and recreational activities in the Connecticut River watershed of the States of New Hampshire and Vermont.
Upcoming Hearings
On June 3rd, the House Natural Resources Committee (Rahall) will hold a hearing H.R. 1061 (Dicks), to transfer certain land to the United States to be held in trust for the Hoh Indian Tribe, to place land into trust for the Hoh Indian Tribe, and for other purposes. Time and Location TBA. DOI witness not yet determined
On June 4th, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Parks, Forests, and Public Lands and the Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife (Bordallo) will hold a joint oversight hearing on bat white-nose syndrome. The hearing is scheduled at 10:00am in Room 1334 Longworth. The DOI witness will be Will Shafroth, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
