National Park News

On Wednesday, May 20th, over 300 volunteers joined the War in the Pacific National Historical Park staff in planting U.S. and Guam flags on the former battlefields of the Asan Beach in commemoration of Memorial Day.

Nearly 100 U.S. Navy military and over 200 Guam National Guard members helped plant 1,862 U.S. flags to honor the members of the United States Armed Forces who died in the battle for Guam from July 21 through August 10, 1944, along with 1,135 Guam flags to honor the Chamorros who died from 1941 to 1944.

The National Park Service extends its thanks to all volunteers, the Guam National Guard, the U.S. Navy, the Veterans Affairs Office, and the veterans of Guam for assisting in this event to honor those who died defending our country and those who serve our nation today.
