This week is National Emergency Medical Services Week. The annual observance honors those public safety personnel who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services essential to our nation.
The theme of this yearâs celebration, which runs from May 17th to May 23rd, is "A Proud Partner In Your Community," which recognizes the commitment that emergency medical personnel make to the communities they serve.
The National Park Service's ability to respond to emergency medical incidents through pre-hospital service providers exemplifies this yearâs theme and is essential to the well being of all who enter NPS areas. Annually, this program responds to over 16,000 incidents through a network of over 2,500 EMS providers Servicewide. The levels of service range from basic first aid to advanced life support measures, and in most areas include care to patients in remote or austere conditions.
