Robert Duvall Speaks Out On Planned Walmart Near Park

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park

National Park News

Academy Award-winning actor Robert Duvall joined Representatives Peter Welch of Vermont and Ted Poe of Texas as the featured speakers at a press conference on May 4th at Ellwood Manor on Wilderness Battlefield, part of Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.

All three criticized plans by Walmart to build a 138,000-square-foot Walmart Super Center at the gateway to the battlefield.

Duvall, who played General Robert E. Lee in the 2003 movie Gods and Generals, referenced the fight against the Disney theme park that was once planned near Manassas National Battlefield Park and vowed that he would do everything he could to "chase out" Walmart.

The event was sponsored by the Civil War Preservation Trust.
