Each year, the participants in the Federal Interagency Council on Trails -- the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, BLM, the Forest Service, Federal Highway Administration, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers -- collect and issue data showing the current status of the components of the National Trails System.
"This report," says NPS Associate Director for Partnerships and Visitor Experience Chris Jarvi, "offers a detailed summary of great progress being made throughout the National Trails System."
The report features changes in trail lengths, acres protected, new developments, data management, mapping, partnerships, planning actions, and even unmet needs. It has proven useful both to field staff working on individual trails and nonprofit organizations striving to support each trail.
