2009 Campground Dates Announced for Glacier National Park

WEST GLACIER, MONT.  â€“  The 2009 operating dates and nightly fee schedule for Glacier National Park’s 13 frontcountry campgrounds are now available. Dates listed represent the first day and the last night of camping for each category.

***St. Mary campground operates as a first come, first served campground with no reservations during the dates listed in the chart. It is the same campground as the St. Mary reservation campground.


** Fish Creek and St. Mary campground sites may be reserved for camping from June 1 through September 1 via the National Recreation Reservation Service website at www.recreation.gov or by calling toll free 877-444-6777. Campers without prior reservations are also welcome at these campgrounds, as space is available, for $23/night.


* All campgrounds in primitive status cost $10/night. When campgrounds are in primitive status NO water is provided. Any water taken from streams or lakes requires treatment before use. Primitive and winter frontcountry campgrounds include pit toilets, no running water and only a limited number of sites. Winter camping is available at St. Mary and in the Apgar picnic area from December 1 through the night of March 31. There is no fee for winter camping; however, a valid entrance pass is required.

  Group campsites are available at Apgar, Many Glacier, St. Mary and Two Medicine Campgrounds. Hiker/bicyclist sites are available at Apgar, Avalanche, Fish Creek, Many Glacier, Rising Sun, Sprague Creek, St. Mary, and Two Medicine Campgrounds. Nightly fees for group sites are $50 plus $5 per person after the first nine. Hiker/bicyclist sites are $5 per person. At reservation campgrounds, the hiker/biker rate is $8/night and the group rate is $53 plus $5 per person after the first nine.

  Springtime visitors are reminded that winter park entrance fees remain in effect through April 30. Beginning May 1, the seven-day single vehicle entrance fee is $25 and a seven-day single entrance (hiker, bicyclist or motorcyclist) is $12. Even when park entrance stations are not staffed, an entrance fee is still required. Follow the posted instructions at the self-payment boxes at each entrance station.
