Kim E. Sikoryak, Branch Chief, Office of Interpretation & Education, Intermountain Region, will retire January 3rd after 30 years of federal service.
Kim began his NPS career as a seasonal Park Aid at John Day Fossil Beds NM in 1978. After a brief stint in a career appointment with the Soil Conservation Service, Kim returned to John Day as a permanent Park Ranger in 1980 and worked his way up to being Chief Interpreter, with a brief hiatus working as a Program Analyst for the Associate Director, Natural Resources, in WASO. He transferred to Haleakala NP in 1988. Kim received regional Freeman Tilden Awards for his work at John Day and again for his work at Haleakala. In 1991, Kim moved to Santa Fe as Interpretive Specialist in the Southwest Regional Office. He returned to the Pacific West Region as Chief of Interpretation at Redwood National & State Parks in 1994, then transferred to Denver as Interpretive Specialist for the Intermountain Region in 1996. He became Branch Chief in 2007. As Regional Cooperating Association Coordinator for both the Southwest Region and the Intermountain Region, he was also a regular participant at the workshops of the Conference of National Park Cooperating Associations, and then its offspring, the Association of Partners for Public Lands.
