On Saturday, December 6th, a special locomotive, provided by Steamtown National Historic Site, stopped at train stations in five communities in the Lackawanna Valley of Northeast Pennsylvania. At each location, Santa disembarked to greet children and their families. A free celebration, including music and seasonal activities, was also held at every stop along the route.
The Santa Train is sponsored by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority, local coordinating entity for the Lackawanna Heritage Valley National Heritage Area, in partnership with Steamtown National Historic Site, the Delaware and Lackawanna Railroad, Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Rail Authority, First Liberty Bank and Trust, Old Forge Bank, and the Lackawanna Historical Society.
2008 marks the 11th year that the Santa Train has toured the region.
