The Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) has always tried to incorporate some form of âgiving back to the communityâ in its annual holiday party. This yearâs party was no exception.
On Thursday December 18th, the centerâs holiday gala included a team-building event â the HPTC version of CANstruction held at the centerâs Jenkins Shop facility (CANstruction is a national competition in which structures are built out of food cans, which are then donated to charities - see the link below for more info).
Non-perishable food items were donated by members of six teams of HPTC employees. Teams were randomly chosen and mixed up the administrative, training, project management and preservation construction staff. The HPTC teams were tasked with construction of âsomethingâ without the use of adhesives, construction aids or scrap materials. Teams were given about two hours to complete their creations. Award categories were not announced in advance.
Non-partisan judges made the difficult decision of selecting the projects to receive recognition. In all, over 2100 food units (individually packaged food items) were collected. Following the event all the collected food goods were donated to several local county food banks in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
âGood planning, creativity and a spirit of charity made our annual joliday party and this team building event a success that will assist our local communities at this time of holiday giving,â said HPTC deputy superintendent Chris Robinson.
