The park recently hosted a three-day, interagency search management course for more than a dozen neighboring law enforcement agencies and emergency service organizations. Twenty-eight students, including park rangers, sheriff deputies, tribal police officers, conservation wardens, and local emergency managers from the states of Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin participated in multiple table-top, incident command exercises.
“Over the past few years, several significant search and rescue events along the Namekagon and Saint Croix Rivers have brought us together as emergency responders,” said chief ranger Bob Whaley. “This interactive training was a great opportunity for us to develop our working relationships and enhance strategies when managing these and other types of emergency incidents.”
The park intends to continue strong working relationships with local law enforcement agencies and emergency services. The course was coordinated by ranger and emergency services coordinator Duane Grego.
