Around 10 p.m. on the evening of Friday, April 18th, ranger Ryan Balentine and trainee Derek Biasiolli contacted the occupants of two vehicles parked outside the Port Gibson facilities near milepost 39, where break-ins have occurred in the recent past. One of them – Kevin McClure, age 31 – had been drinking, and possessed both an open container and codeine without a prescription. McClure was nervous and would neither stand still or remain where he was told to stand. At this time, ranger Jerome Timmons and trainee Tim Svem arrived to assist and began to interview McClure. McClure then removed his jacket and fled on foot, running northbound on the parkway. During the chase rangers, saw McClure remove and discard an item from the small of his back. He also ignored repeated commands to stop. Timmons used his taser to the pursuit. McClure was arrested on multiple charges.
