In observance of the 143rd anniversary of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, staff and volunteers of Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site placed a wreath at the door of the Petersen House where Lincoln died on Wednesday, April 15th.
Lincoln was shot by actor John Wilkes Booth on Friday evening, April 14, 1865, while attending a play at Ford’s Theatre. The wounded President was carried across the street to the Petersen Home, where he died at 7:22 a.m. the next morning, April 15, 1865.
Ceremonies included the laying of the wreath and a reading of Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address.
