April 18, 2008 - Everglades National Park staff participated in a naturalization ceremony at the Federal courthouse in downtown Miami to invite new United States citizens to explore their national parks. One hundred and twenty two individuals, representing 39 countries around the world, were granted citizenship during the proceedings. During the ceremony, U.S. Magistrate Judge Chris McAliley graciously acknowledged Everglades' participation in the event and extolled the virtues of south Florida's amazing national parks. Following the ceremony, Superintendent Dan Kimball congratulated the new citizens and presented each with a copy of the National Park Owner's Manual for New Citizens of the United States of America. The publications were well received and many in the group were eager to explore opportunities in our national parks.
