A group of students from Bowling GreenStateUniversity in Ohio recently spent a week at Canaveral National Seashore assisting with a dune restoration project. Members of the Environmental Service Club wanted to do a project that would benefit the environment. They installed a quarter mile of fencing along a section of dune that had been heavily damaged by storm activity and visitor use. Fencing was installed in strips diagonal to the historic dune crest to catch and hold blowing sand and help rebuild the dune. Other volunteer groups will be planting native dune vegetation to help stabilize the accumulating sand. This is the second year students from Bowling Green have assisted the park with environmental projects.
