On Thursday, February, 14th Regional Director Reidenbach visited Edison National Historic Site. Following a gathering with park staff and partners, the Director toured the Site as the end of construction draws near. At the Laboratory he saw the new visitor orientation area and a new multi-purpose room - Building 11, a historic building which was moved to the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan in 1940 and just recently returned to its original location at the site. He also explored all three floors of the Main Laboratory - Building 5. The top two floors, which have never been opened to the public, will soon showcase Edison's private office, drafting room, precision machine shop, music room, photography lab, phonograph exhibit and artifact storage.
In the afternoon, he visited Thomas and Mina Edison's home, Glenmont. The 15 acre estate reopened to visitors in 2006 after a project to install fire detection and sprinkler systems, and a geo-thermal heating and cooling system in the house in addition to restoring the historic barn and greenhouse on the estate grounds. The staff enjoyed the day with the Regional Director and look forward to welcoming him back for the grand re-opening.
