What better way to celebrate Presidents’ Day than with a former President of the United States? The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is pleased to host a Presidents’ Day Celebration on February 18th, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Plains High School Museum. Dr. W. Gary Kline, Chair of the Department of History and Political Science at Georgia Southwestern State University, will speak on the significance of Presidents’ Day and our most influential presidents. Former President Jimmy Carter will speak following Dr. Kline on the Carter Presidency’s greatest moments. Audience members will be allowed to participate in a short question and answer session. President Carter will be available to autograph books he has authored immediately following his lecture. Other items, such as photographs, will not be autographed. Due to time constraints, President Carter will be unable to personalize books and there will be a three book per person limit. Books will be available for purchase at the Eastern National Bookstore located inside the Plains High School Museum. The Plains Depot will also be open on Presidents’ Day. The Plains Depot served as the 1976 Presidential Campaign Headquarters and exhibits presently highlight President Carter’s political campaigns. Likewise, the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm will be open to the public. Visitors may experience a bit of nostalgia and learn about life in 1930s by visiting President Carter’s childhood home and farm. Interpretive programs will be provided by park rangers at both the Plains Depot and the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm following the morning event.
