Winter Holiday Event At Cowpens National Battlefield

Cowpens National Battlefield will host a winter holiday event on, Sunday, December 9, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The park visitor center and the Historic Scruggs House (circa 1830) will be decorated for the winter holidays.

Join us in the Visitor Center at 2:00 p.m. for light refreshments as we welcome Virginia Harley, a local artist whose renowned work is displayed at the Foothills Artisan Center. Ms. Harley will be talking about her recent projects, which will be for sale in the Visitor Center on that day only. Visit the Historic Scruggs House, which is only open to the public during special events. Experience writing with a quill pen, demonstrated by a costumed interpreter. Walk the trail and experience the history where Daniel Morgan and his rag tag army soundly defeated Banastre Tarleton and his British troops on January 17, 1781. The anniversary celebration is quickly approaching, (January 19 -20, 2008), beat the crowds and enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon with the family.

The event is free. Activities are subject to change. Cowpens National Battlefield is part of the National Park Service and is open daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years days). The park is located ten miles west of Gaffney and seventeen miles north of Spartanburg on SC Highway 11. Contact the park for details at (864) 461-2828 or visit the park's website at www.nps.gov/cowp.
