Seneca Falls, NY - On Sunday, October 21, retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor toured Women’s Rights National Historical Park. It was the first time she had visited the park. Justice O’Connor had been visiting nearby Cornell University as the Law School’s Distinguished Jurist in Residence, and found time to visit Seneca Falls with a group from the university. She was welcomed by park superintendent Tina Orcutt. John Stoudt provided Justice O’Connor with a tour of several park sites starting with the visitor center before moving on to the Wesleyan Chapel and Elizabeth Cady Stanton House. Justice O’Connor remarked to her companions that the 1848 Women’s Rights Convention was the starting point for many of the rights and privileges enjoyed by American women today. During the tour Justice O’Connor and her companions signed an affirmation of their commitment to the principles of the Declaration of Sentiments.
