Valley Forge Partners with Community on National Public Lands Day
Volunteers from nearby corporations, neighborhoods, schools and partner organizations joined hands on Saturday, September 29 to complete a variety of projects for their nearby public land--Valley Forge National Historical Park.
Over 300 volunteers started arriving at the EXPO tent as early as 8 am to sign on to pitch in. REI was primary sponsor of the event for the third year; they provided breakfast along with Starbuck's coffee as well as had their corporate team of volunteers participate in a riparian buffer installation project. Additional sponsors were PECO Energy, Unilever/Lipton Tea and the Friends of Valley Forge Park. The largest group of coporate volunteers came from Lockheed Martin's NOVA organization. Together volunteers painted park facitlities, improved landscaping around developed areas, completed trails maintenance and clean up projects and completed a stream bank stabilization project.
