Early on the morning of Wednesday, September 19th, park dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle collision near milepost 368 in Wayne County, Tennessee, about 10 miles northeast of Waynesboro. The driver, Ashley Sanderson, 16, was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital, where she later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. The initial investigation indicates that Sanderson’s 1990 Chevrolet Camaro was northbound on the parkway when it left the road and struck a tree. Speed may have been a contributing factor. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Ranger Daniel Kimes is the investigating ranger.
