Rangers Participate in Torch Run

Colonial National Historical Park

National Park News

On Thursday, June 7, rangers from Colonial National Historical Park participated in the Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefiting Special Olympics Virginia.  Over the course of the run, more than 3,500 Virginia law enforcement officials carried a torch with the Flame of Hope more than 1,900 miles across Virginia, arriving at the opening ceremonies of Special Olympics Virginia in Richmond on Friday, June 8.  Runners for Colonial NHP began at Surrender Field on the Yorktown Battlefield and carried the torch to the Yorktown Victory Monument, where they handed the it off to deputies from the York County Sheriff’s Department.  Colonial’s participants included Rangers Ken Doak, Joe Meekins, and Larry Smith, as well as field trainees Tim Wilmarth and Michelle Schonzeit.
