Mojave National Preserve invites interested career or career-conditional GL-025-9 protection rangers with Level 1 commissions to apply for a lateral transfer. There are several openings. These positions are permanent full-time positions located in various areas in the park. The work schedule is typically four 10 hour days, with set days off. There is a 24.03% locality payment which greatly enhances the pay rate (http://www.opm.gov/oca/07tables/pdf/la_leo.pdf). Both front and backcountry patrols are typical. Numerous opportunities to work on collateral duties exist, including EMS coordinator, structural fire coordinator, etc. The park is a 1.6 million acre site located in southern California, with the closest large town being Las Vegas. There are over 2,000 miles of road, with approximately 200 miles of paved road. Annual visitation is over 400,000. Government housing may be available for one or two positions (required occupancy). Outside housing will be permitted for one to two positions as well. Permanent change of station (PCS) expenses will be covered and available to current federal career or career-conditional employees.
