A Tucson area 911 dispatcher received an anonymous phone call around 6:30 p.m. on February 19th reporting a body at the trailhead for the Desert Discovery Trail. A Pima County deputy was first on scene and found a man’s body with a gunshot wound to his head. A 9mm pistol was lying nearby and a suicide note was found on his person. The 911 call was later traced back to him. Although seriously wounded, he was still alive. EMS care was provided by local fire district paramedics and he was flown by lifeflight helicopter to a Tucson area hospital. He died there at 8 p.m. Although the case remains under investigation, all evidence supports suicide as the cause of death.
