On January 22nd, Saguaro National Park and the Southern Arizona area were treated to a rare snow storm. Much of the park received snow – from just a dusting in some places to about a foot of snow above the 8,000-foot level in the Rincon Mountains. Three inches fell in the headquarters area.
Since Tucsonians aren’t well known for their snow and icy road driving skills, traffic in the metropolitan area was paralyzed for much of the morning. Several school districts in the Tucson area treated their students to a rare snow day, and park visitation doubled during the day as locals ventured out to see the Sonoran Desert cloaked in full winter splendor.
