Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

National Mall and Memorial Parks

National Park News

On Friday, January 12th, a ceremony remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was held at the Lincoln Memorial, where he gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in August of 1963. The speech was presented by students from Watkins Elementary School.

Earlier that day, another remembrance was held at the Sidney Yates Auditorium at the Department of the Interior. Steve Lorenzetti, deputy superintendent, National Mall & Memorial Parks, served as master of ceremonies and the National Park Service honor guard presented the colors. Speakers included Secretary Kempthorne and Joe Lawler, regional director for National Capital Region.
