Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site

National Park News

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in cooperation with the Lincoln Museum of Hodgenville will commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. with a program for students and the next speaker in our continuing Bicentennial Speaker Series.

The first event of the day will begin at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace NHS at 11 a.m.  Ms. Boyd’s 5th grade class from Louisville, KY’s Abraham Lincoln Elementary School will take turns reading from Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.  The students have been working hard on this performance.  Choral music will be performed.  The event is free and open to the public.  School groups are encouraged to attend.

The second event of the day will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Museum’s Community Room, on the Square in Hodgenville, KY.  Dr. Thomas C. Mackey, History Professor from the University of Louisville and featured National Bicentennial Speaker will deliver a talk:

“They Belong to the Ages: The Enduring Values of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr.”

A buffet lunch will be available for purchase, but not required.  Luncheon reservations should be made by contacting Steve Brown, 270-358-3137 or Stephen_A_Brown@nps.gov.
