Big Thicket National Preserve and Amistad National Recreational Area staffed National Parks in Texas booth at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo, October 7-8, 2006
Each year in early October on the grounds of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Headquarters in August, Texas, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo is held for two fun-filled weekend days. This year, more than 35,000 people visited the Expo. Leta Parker and Volunteer Ann Roberts from Big Thicket National Preserve and Lisa Evans from Amistad National Recreational Area manned the National Parks in Texas booth. Lyndon B Johnson National Historical Park furnished the National Parks in Texas tabletop display and other items highlighting the 13 National Parks in Texas. Over 2,000 people visited the booth and learned something about the National Park Service, National Parks in general, and National Parks in Texas specifically. With donated items from National Parks in Texas, prizes were awarded hourly to the winners of the National Parks in Texas Trivia Contest. The contest was enjoyed by all including Walter D. Dabney, Director of the State Parks and former National Park Service employee.
