An open house to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Great Basin National Park took place at the Great Basin Visitor Center, in Baker, Nevada, on Friday October 27th.
A poster display created by Great Basin National Park staff featured the accomplishments and progress made over the park’s 20 year history. Visitors, staff, park neighbors and park partners attended the event.
“We take pride in the accomplishments of the park staff and our non-profit park partners -- the Great Basin National Heritage Route, the Great Basin Foundation, and our cooperating association,” said superintendent Cindy Nielsen.
Great Basin National Park was established as the nation’s 49th national park on October 27, 1986. It remains Nevada’s only national park. The first two decades of Great Basin National Park were also marked by the unveiling of a new park logo and interpretive message created by Western National Park Association that celebrates the night skies and pristine air quality of the park and by a “state of the park” workshop in cooperation with the National Parks and Conservation Association.
