For the 11th year in a row, the Charles Edison Fund has sponsored an Internship program at Edison NHS for students attending Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange. Each year 5 or 6 young men compete for slots working in the park alongside NPS staffers. Originally designed to acquaint the students with the full spectrum of park operations, in the last several years the groups have concentrated largely on Maintenance functions in an effort that assists ongoing construction at the Site. This year Interns maintained the historic landscape at Glenmont, the Edison home, performed historic housekeeping inside the home, its outbuildings and the Laboratory, made minor repairs to facilities and participated in the NPS Safety Stand Down. Their Summer ended with a field trip to nearby Morristown NHP and a picnic. Several graduates of the program now work at the park as NPS seasonals.
