NPS & Friends Host Meeting to Explain Plan

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

National Park News

The Friends of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and the National Park Service will jointly host an informational meeting relating to the park’s ongoing long-range planning efforts. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 14, and will take place in the Bayfield Pavilion located near City Dock in Bayfield. The park’s general management plan, currently in the process of being revised, will be the topic of discussion.

From 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm, the meeting will be an “open house,” with opportunities to view posters and informally discuss all aspects of the planning process with park staff, including the park’s superintendent, Bob Krumenaker. From 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm, the meeting will shift to a sit-down discussion of park issues and options, led by Krumenaker, with an opportunity to have questions addressed.

The meeting may be of particular interest to local residents, as the future of the park’s visitor centers and administrative facilities will be discussed.

Everyone with an interest in the future of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is encouraged to attend. When completed, the general management plan will set the vision for the park for the next 15 to 20 years. More information on the planning process, including copies of documents on public review, may be obtained at www.nps.gov/apis/gmp.htm.
