The National Park Service will host a guided bike hike along the Lower Trail on Sunday, August 20th at 2:00pm. The ride begins in Williamsburg and will follow the Canoe Creek Extenision of the abandoned Petersburg Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. National Park Service Park Ranger Mike Garcia will lead this approximately 10 mile round trip ride and participants will explore the rich history of the Pennsylvania Mainline Canal, which followed the river from the 1830’s through the 1870’s. Along the way, remains of an old railroad station, railroad bridges, a water tower, and other vestiges of transportation history will be revealed. There is no charge for this program, but reservations are required. Please call the park at (814) 886-6150 for reservations and meeting place information. Riders must bring their own bicycles.
