(FLAT ROCK, NC)— Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site and Eastern National will host a book signing on August 19th, from 10:00 am till noon, in the bookstore located in the historic home. The featured publication is: The Carl Sandburg Home, Connemara, an Images of America book by Galen Reuther, released in July. Reuther, a park volunteer and member of the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara, has already authored two such books; one each on Hendersonville and Flat Rock. Her research on the previous two books inspired her to tell the story of Connemara in this, her third, Images of America book. Pictorial contributions from the community and park include images dating from the 1800s through the present. The book offers a view into the past of the home’s original occupant, Christopher G. Memminger, and successive owners including Ellyson Smyth. Carl Sandburg and his family lived at Connemara for more than twenty years and their time is captured as well as a glimpse of the home today under the care of the National Park Service. Galen Reuther’s book is available for purchase from the bookstore now and will be on the day of the signing.
Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is located three miles south of Hendersonville off U.S. 225 on Little River Road. The park is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., daily, except Christmas Day. Scheduled guided tours of the home cost $5.00 each for adults and are free for those age 16 and under. The grounds are free of charge with hiking trails, a goat barn, picnic area and bookstore.
