August Performances at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park As the temperatures get hot, so does the music here at the NOJNHP visitor center. The park is also pleased to announce a partnership with the New Orleans Musicians Clinic that increases our live music offerings throughout the summer. Wednesday, August 2 Air National Guard Band of the Gulf Coast Brass Quintet 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Join the 531st Air Force Band from Dallas, TX for a brass quintet concert featuring a varied repertoire of styles ranging from classical to New Orleans jazz. The concert takes place right outside the visitor center on the Dutch Alley stage.
Thursday, August 3 Richard Scott 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. This ‘young lion’ of the jazz piano displays a remarkable ability to resurrect and remake traditional New Orleans piano styles.
Thursday, August 3 Air National Guard Band of the Gulf coast Popular Music Ensemble 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ‘Texas’ official band’, the 531st Air Force Band presents their talented jazz band performing music from the Glen Miller era all the way to today’s most influential composers. The concert takes place right outside the visitor center on the Dutch Alley stage.
Friday, August 4 U.S. Army Signal Corps Band Jazz Combo 2: oo-3:30 p.m. Members of the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band from Fort Gordon, Georgia comprise the 6-piece Jazz Combo, specializing in music form the be-bop era and beyond.
Saturday, August 5th and Sunday, August 6th Satchmo Summer Fest Join us at the children’s stage, located right outside our visitor center in the Dutch Alley, for kid friendly performances and activities form 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. The park’s visitor center will be the site for the Satchmo SummerFest seminar series. Saturday, August 12 John Royen & Friends present “Kid Thomas Revisited” 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Pianist John Royen leads the band in a program of music performed by the hot New Orleans trumpet man, ‘Kid’ Thomas Valentine. Kid Thomas was born in 1896 and his playing career lasted until the mid 1980’s. Craig Brenner & the Crawdads featuring Alfred Uganda Roberts 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Craig Brenner, specialist in jazz, boogie woogie, and barrelhouse piano styles lays down some heavy New Orleans grooves with the legendary percussionist, Alfred Uganda Roberts.

August 8, 10, 15, 17, and 31 Roots of Jazz Ranger Series 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Join musical rangers Bruce Barnes and Matt Hampsey as they interpret the early development of New Orleans jazz through performance and lively banter.
These activities are free and open to the public and will take place in the park’s Visitor Center at 916 N. Peters Street, unless specified. The Visitor Center is the site of programs and music performances relating to the origins, development and progression of America’s original art form – jazz.
