“Tales of the Great Flood”

Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site

The National Park Service will finish the Evening on the Summit season with its own Reader’s Theater production entitled “Tales of the Great Flood.”, on Saturday, August 12. The Reader’s Theater provides a moving tribute to the victims of the Johnstown Flood of 1889. Park Rangers Doug Richardson, Nathan Koozer, and Rebecca Hott will use the words of survivors’ from diaries and journals to convey the tragedy and heroism of the day.

The program will start at 8:00pm and will be held in the park’s visitor center. It is free and open to the public. For additional information to this event, please call the park at (814) 886-6150 or visit the park web-site at www.nps.gov/alpo Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site is located 10 miles west of Altoona, Pa., off the Gallitzin Exit of U. S. Highway 22. The park preserves portions of the first railroad crossing of the Allegheny Mountains. This unique railroad connected the eastern and western divisions of the Pennsylvania Mainline Canal.
