National Marina Day is August 12

Amistad National Recreation Area

National Park News

To celebrate the importance of marinas to communities around the country, Saturday, August 12 has been designated National Marina Day. Amistad National Recreation Area will celebrate along with Forever Resorts and Safe Kids Val Verde, a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to preventing accidental injury to children. The goal of National Marina Day is to educate the community and public about the important role that marinas play in cities and towns across the nation as family-friendly recreational gateways and stewards of the environment.

Free events will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Forever Resorts Lake Amistad Marina at Diablo East, which is located north of US Highway 90 West just before the bridge over Lake Amistad. Events include boat displays and educational booths covering boating, swimming and water safety. Forever Resorts Marina will host an open house and allow the public to board and explore one of their rental houseboats. The marina will also provide free hot dogs and soda. In addition, Texas Parks and Wildlife staff from Austin will bring a custom display featuring fiberglass replicas of the 11 largest fish entered into the Budweiser ShareLunker program. Those attending the National Marina Day event may register to win a ride on a Forever Resorts boat.

Scout troops and other youth groups can reserve attendance at water safety presentations at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Participation can satisfy some merit badge requirements for scouts. Call to reserve space.
