Temporary Rerouting of the Mount Vernon Trail Through Jones Point Park
Alexandria, VA ----- As the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project progresses into the demolition phase of the old bridge structure and construction of the new span, the Mt. Vernon Trail will be rerouted through Jones Point Park. Starting on or about July 10th, a new temporary trail will be open for use by pedestrians and bicyclists. This trail will extend from near Hunting Towers, through Jones Point Park on the south side of the new bridge, to the north side of Jones Point Park, connecting with Union Street in Alexandria. This temporary trail alignment is expected to be in place for 2 years while Jones Point Park Drive is closed during the construction of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. During this entire period, park visitors may use designated parking at the Hunting Point apartment complex to access the south side of Jones Point Park.
During certain times throughout the demolition phase, it will be necessary to close the connector trail for public safety. However, trail access will remain open along South Washington Street to Union Street in Alexandria. This closure will most likely occur during the months of July through September. The specific times will be posted on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge website at http://www.wilsonbridge.com.
