On July 8, the new St. Croix Falls headquarters and visitor center was dedicated. The new structure, featuring many sustainable design elements, new exhibits and native plantings, replaces an old motel that had served the Riverway since its inception. Special recognition was given to the late Gaylord Nelson whose many achievements included sponsoring the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968, which included creation of the Riverway. His co-sponsor in this notable achievement, then Senator Walter Mondale, provided the stirring keynote remarks. Also speaking were Congressman David Obey, Regional Director Ernie Quintana, Wisconsin Historical Society Director Ellsworth Brown and Gaylord Nelson’s daughter, Tia Nelson.
