High Water Danger on Upper Delaware River

Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River

National Park News

HIGH WATER ON UPPER DELAWARE RIVER

Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River is experiencing historic flood conditions. Flood and high water conditions are expected to continue through this weekend. At 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 28 the water level exceeded 27 feet at the gauge at Barryville, NY. The river level is predicted to rise throughout the day on Wednesday and reach 33 - 35 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At these heights, typical river conditions include waves over 8 feet, floating and submerged debris, swift currents, colder water temperatures, and hazards along the shore. BOATING IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

The Roebling Bridge between Lackawaxen, PA and Minisink Ford, NY is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. If flood waters reach the bridge deck it will not reopen until it has been inspected by the Federal Highway Administration.

For daily updates of air and water temperatures, the river heights, and local weather conditions call the River Information Hotline: (845) 252-7100.
