The National Park Service has prepared an Environmental Assessment/Assessment of Effect (EA/AEF) that details the National Park Serviceâs proposal to construct at Fire Facility at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. The EA/AEF analyzes the impacts of two alternatives: (1) no action and (2) construction of the Fire Facility southeast of the visitor center. Impacts to geologic resources, vegetation, wildlife, special status species, archeological resources, historic structures, park operations, and visual quality are described in this document.
We welcome and seek public input on the proposed construction of the Fire Facility. The public comment period closes on July 26, 2006. Public comments on this project may be mailed directly to the Park Superintendent at the address below. The public may also review the EA/EAF and provide comments on-line, using the Park Service website at http://parkplanning.nps.gov. Select âFlagstaff Areasâ from the drop down box and then follow the link to Fire Facility Environmental Assessment/Assessment of Effect.
It is National Park Service policy to make comments, including names and home addresses of respondents, available for public review during regular business hours. Individual respondents may request that we withhold their home address from the record, which we will honor to the extent allowable by law. There also may be circumstances in which we would withhold from the record a respondentâs identity, as allowable by law. If you wish us to withhold your name and/or address, you must state this prominently at the beginning of your comment. We will make all submissions from organizations or businesses, and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives or officials of organizations or businesses, available for public inspection in their entirety. Please address your comments to:
